What is a pip in forex trading?

A pip is the standard unit of price movement for a currency pair: 0.0001 for most major pairs and 0.01 for pairs quoted in Japanese yen or Hungarian forint. Fractional pips, or points, represent one-tenth of a pip.

How is pip value calculated?

Pip value is calculated by multiplying position size in lots by standard contract size and pip decimal size, converted into your base account currency.

Why do I need to enter a price for certain pairs?

When your base account currency differs from the quote currency of the traded pair, you need real-time exchange rates to convert pip value accurately into your account currency.

Which asset classes use the pip calculator?

Pips apply directly to forex currency pairs. For spot metals, spot energies, and indices, use contract specifications and point values.

Does lot size affect the pip value?

Yes, pip value scales directly with position size. Trading 1.0 standard lot produces ten times the pip value of a 0.10 mini lot.
